Nepal's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, has commenced a five-day official visit to India starting Sunday, August 18, 2024. During her visit, she is expected to engage in high-level talks aimed at deepening the multifaceted ties between the two neighbouring nations. Rana will meet with India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation.
According to a statement from Nepal's Foreign Ministry, this is Rana's first official visit abroad since assuming office. Her trip comes at the invitation of Minister Jaishankar, reflecting the ongoing tradition of high-level exchanges between the two countries.
"Foreign Minister Rana will hold a bilateral meeting with her Indian counterpart Jaishankar on Monday to discuss matters of mutual interest, with a focus on further strengthening Nepal-India relations and fostering cooperation," the ministry said.
India has consistently prioritized its relationship with Nepal as part of its "Neighbourhood First" policy. The upcoming meetings will allow both nations to review the progress made in bilateral cooperation and identify new avenues to enhance their partnership, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
The visit was endorsed by Nepal's Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on August 15, 2024. Rana, the spouse of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, will be accompanied by a delegation from Nepal's government.
In addition to her official meetings, the 62-year-old minister is scheduled to undergo a health checkup during her stay in Delhi.
